The Facility for Education and Research
The IML includes a large-scale three-dimensional immersive display and an intelligent modeling support system, both for educational purposes and for studying "research into artifact engineering using intelligent modeling".
# Large-Scale Three-Dimensional Immersive Display : CABIN
The large-scale three-dimensional immersive display(CABIN), which consists of five screens (three walls, floor and ceiling) generates an immersive virtual reality space. In this environment, the user is able to experience computer simulated worlds, such as a microscopic world or a world with extreme environmental conditions.
CABIN
# Intelligent Modeling Support System
The intelligent modeling support system, which consists mainly of an IBM SP2 parallel supercomputer, conducts leading-edge simulations of life science, material and cultural sciences with the aid of the latest parallel computer resources. These advanced numerical simulations, together with our multimedia and virtual reality technology, enables trailblazing studies. New numerical simulation techniques will also be established in the massively parallel computer environment, and these are expected to be the mainstream of the next generation of computer simulations.
Intelligent Modeling Support System
# Project Promotion Room
The room for promoting the research projects. Researchers with various backgrounds can use this room in advance their projects, interchanging ideas and discussing them with other members of the facility.
Project Promotion Room
# Meeting Room
The room for discussion. There are white boards on each wall, so discussions can take place and be illustrated anywhere in the room.
