Intelligent Modeling
The world of computer simulation is about to enter a new era with the progress in new technologies in the areas of, for example, massively parallel computers, virtual reality, and computer networking. Intelligent modeling is the research field that will exploit this new frontier in which the information science technologies of virtual reality, computer networking and computer simulation are merged with the modeling technology of the latest parallel computers. Numerical experiments based on computer simulations and modeling can produce extreme situations that do not exist or cannot be tested in the real world. By applying virtual reality techniques, however, the phenomena produced in the numerical experiments can be understood in terms of real conditions. Intelligent modeling has already been applied to engineering fields such as structural analysis, fluid dynamics analysis and atmospheric modeling. Further applications to problems in the cultural sciences, environmental sciences, energy problems and life sciences (which incorporates the social sciences, psychology and physiology) are expected.
